This has to be THE BEST replica of the map I've seen til now!
I wanna congratulate you for the incredible work and talent you put into it, which can be clearly seen in the marvelous result. I understand why you wouldn't do a tutorial for it, but can I ask you a question: Where did you took the layout for the contents of the maps from (I mean the actual Hogwarts layout and the way the particular elements are set) ? Or was it all your own imagination? If not, would you be willing to share the source with me (and others HP fans) who would also want to try to do an own original replica?
Thanks for understanding and again Congratulation for the wonderful wonderful work!
So the layout of the grounds comes from the JK Rowling sketch seen here: [link] As you can see i changed it up a little bit. As for the floor by floor, i just read the books and took notes on where things are mentioned. Luckily you can find all that information online now. Try the HP Lexicon or the HP Wiki. I took liberties on a few things and invented some others. For example the books NEVER mention what's on the 6th floor so i used that floor for some places that dont have a confirmed location.
If you make your own map let me know. I'd love to see it!
Thanks for replying! Since asking you that question I have actually discovered a neat page ([link]) with all kind of awesome Harry Potter movie/books props and have actually fell in love with the HP universe all over again I've already used some of the props to make a couple of "fake books" (Advanced Potion Making, Dark Arts Defence Beedle the Bart ) where I intend to store my HP DVD from now on (It will go very well with the new bookshelf I made especially for my HP books and DVD ). I'm also planing a small "Potion corner" (I have found some bottles I could use, but I am too poor to buy anything resembling a cauldron...to be honest I always use only stuff that I have around the house for these things).
Anyways, I might or might not make a Marauders Map...but for now I just don't have the right materials to do it. I've checked the sites you mentioned (which I actually have checked already, just forgotten about it...). BTW, thanks for the tip on the sixth floor If I will make the map it will surely turn up unique and one-of-a-kind (just like yours )!
Btw, could you give me some advice on the paper you used (measurements, types, etc)?
Travesura realizada
Say you don't happen to have a scanned version of each page in HD? 'Cause if you do I give all my Da point for it (I know it's worth nothing but I don't have anything else... Or I draw you something? Or... or... Oh Please!!!! Please!!!!!!)
YOU. are. amazing. you got almost everything right, except for the kitchens (they are under the great hall) but thats ok, because your still epic, and i'm WAY to much of a potterhead to have noticed that
i have to say... other fucking wow,, you should draaw a few footprints saying harry potter, draco malfoy snape lupin, filch and peter pettigrew hahah xx and dobby just to prove hes not dead and the best one of all bellatrix, volders and neville... oh and dumbledore xx
I'm designing my own Marauders' Map at the moment! I haven't even attempted to use only one sheet, though, I could never manage that. I'm using Harry Potter Lexicon's compiled information on Hogwarts to create a map which obeys the books as much as possible, but I've ended up missing and altering out a lot because I physically can't make it work... My tiny prototype worked but I don't even know if I'll be able to make the full-sized one x_x Your map is awesome, I hope mine turns out half as good! Sorry to disturb you with all that information you probably don't care about >_>
AWESOME! I'd love to see it, even if it's the small one. Are you having fun making it? I had a brilliant time making this one. As for changing locations i think that's absolutely fine. The castle after all is always changing. I'll let you in on a secret, I'm making an updated version of this map and on the new one where i've changed the location of something i've added text saying things like "you may also be on the third floor right now".
Well the smal one is about 4.5 x 5 cm, made of tissue paper and covered in notes to myself pointing out things I've done wrong and will have to change, so I don't plan to post it >_<. I'll post the real one, though, and I'll try to remember to send you a link. Yeah, it's fun so far. Ahaha, that's clever, making it part of it. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the new one.
OMIGOSH, that is sooooo amazing! I think my holiday project will be to start one of those I was going to order the noble one, but after what you said, I think I might just make my own. I saw a video review, and I noticed it was all the same thing :/ But this is just...WOW! Awesome job!
